Nothing says love like a handmade set of note cards. This is a fast way to use a big envelope as a box for a smaller set of cards and envelopes. Paper-Papers makes a bright, cheery red: Crush, Cherry and a vibrant warm ivory Natural Citrus. Crush is a unique earth friendly paper that is made using process residues from organic products to replace up to 15% of virgin tree pulp. The surface is soft and smooth to the touch, with a brightness that adds vibrance to the colors.
The A7 envelope is 5.25″ x 7.25″, and is used as the box. The Cherry A2 envelopes, 4.375″ x 5.75″, are used in the card sets. The box easily holds 5 envelopes and note cards.
Score .75″ around the sides and bottom of the A7 envelope. Fold the scores on both sides, so the lines are flexible. Open the envelope and use the score lines to form the edges of the box, like opening a grocery bag. Clip the extra bits from the flap. The sides of the box are 1.5″ wide.
Make 1.5″ wide supports for the sides using the Natural Citrus. It is a soft yellow white that adds even more color to the vibrant Cherry. Adhere to the sides before turning up the flaps at the bottom.
Refer to the photos. Since the red flap is too short to cover the front, use the Citrus to add a cover to the box lid. Cut the Citrus as wide as the box and at least 5″ long. Decorate the edges with your favorite punch. Insert the smaller envelope in the box and score the box lid so it will fold over the smaller envelope. Score another 1.5″ out from that. Adhere the Citrus flap and score it to match. The back flap of the Citrus is 1.5″, the top fold is 1.5″ and the front is 2″, for a total of 5″.
The Citrus belly band is 1.5″ wide and is pieced on the bottom, since it is longer than 11.5″.
The note cards are also Natural Citrus, and edged with the same punch that was used on the box flap. A full sheet of Citrus paper was cut in two, with each piece scored in the middle, folded over and edged. Decorate them with your favorite designs. What a lovely gift; a joy to make and receive. Enjoy.
