The best place to put your money or favorite things are in your wallet. But who wants to have a ton of wallets sitting around? Check out this wonderful tutorial by Origami 4ik on how to make your very own Origami Paper Wallet!
Instructions for Origami Paper Wallet:
The following steps are simple enough, but you can get lost easily if you’re not paying attention. A simple sheet of medium-sized lightweight paper of your preferred color is best.
First things first, turn it horizontally. Grab the left side and carefully fold it in half neatly. Now turn the paper over; the side where the middle crease is jutting out should be facing you. Grab the right side of the paper and fold it halfway, where its edge meets with the initial crease.
Do the same with the left side. At this point, your paper should look like double doors. When you open those doors, there should be three perfectly lined creases. Take the right side again and fold it in half so that it meets the rightmost crease on the paper. Reach under the paper to feel for the closest crease and flip it inward.
Flip your colored paper over so the single vertical crease is facing you. Fold the bottom and top half upward an inch. On either side, separate the right outer flap and fold its inner edge inward. Do the same with the left outer flap on the other. You should be able to see the indentation of a vertical crease right down the middle.
As you fold it onto itself, pull out the inch of the flap and connect the edges in a way that you would close the flap of an envelope. The difference here is your “flap” has two folds, so separate those folds to insert the two large, vertically-divided edges. Push it in so that the edge is firmly caught between the two “flaps.” Repeat the step on the other side. After connecting both ends, a full wallet should emerge. It may be bulging, so smooth down the perimeters.
Now you have completed your origami paper wallet. To use it, just pull back the side to expose its interior. To close it, turn your origami wallet the long way – the way you would a check – facing the flaps. Take up the left side and fold the entire thing in half. As you do, connect the left side with the right side of the paper’s flap as you fold it over onto each other. The result is a smooth square in which spare change can actually be placed. Confused how? The series of folds make for a sturdier wallet. Now you have a simple, yet fully functional origami paper wallet.
