How to Make a Paper Flower Pot

Paper art can bring life to almost anything you can imagine, including a flower pot. There are a few ways you can do this, depending on how you plan to use it. Let’s dive in. 

Making a Decorative Flower Pot

Let’s start by looking at how you can make a decorative flower pot. 

First, you need to make the body of the vase. To do this, you need to get a piece of art paper. It’s best to make it 20cm wide by 25cm high. Then, you’ll need to spread some glue along the height of the paper. You’ll only need to do this on one side. 

Twist the paper to form a cone shape. It should be thinner at the bottom and wide at the top. When you are happy with the shape, rub along the seam. Once we have the body, it’s time to make the base of the pot. 

You’ll need to cut a circle out of art paper.  It will need to have a diameter of 15 centimeters. Next, cut a small wedge out of the paper. It doesn’t need to be a lot, just enough to allow you to fold it into a cone. Once you are happy with the shape of the cone, use some glue to hold it in place. This will form the base of our flower pot. 

The final step is to attach to cone to the body of the vase. To do this, you might need to trim a little from the base of the vase, this should be as uniform as possible. All you need to do now is run some glue around the base of the body. Stick this on top of the cone. When it dries you should have a freestanding paper vase. Now all you need to do is make some paper flowers to go with it. 

Making a Plant Pot From Newspaper

Sometimes, you will want to get something that you can grow flowers in. Thankfully, this is very simple to make. All you need is some old newspaper. Once you have this, lay it out on the table. Then, fold the top of the sheet over, like you would fold an envelope. 

Now, all you need to do is take a jar and place it on the paper. The top of the jar should be aligned with the fold. Then, roll the jar and paper together. This will form the shape of your pot. When you’ve finished rolling, fold the excess newspaper into the open end of the jar.

Screwing on the lid will form a tight seal. It should hold its shape once the jar is removed. As it falls apart when it gets wet, you can leave the seedling in the pot when planting it out. If you prefer a longer-lasting pot, you can use a cartesian 3D printer to create a DIY plastic planter.
