Perhaps the walls of your home could use a little pop! Well never fear, Lia Griffith and Paper-Papers are here to help turn your space into a summer sanctuary. Today we have a flower backdrop made out of paper peonies. This project is made with three types of our paper: POPTONE, Stardream metallic, and basic. With this combination, we get the sheen of the POPTONE and metallic, while adding that subtle basic flair for the interior of the peony.
To create your own jumbo peony flower backdrop, simply gather the tools and materials listed below. Next, scroll down to download either the SVG or PDF files, then cut. Finally, follow along with Lia’s photo tutorial on Liagriffith.com to learn how to assemble your paper jumbo peony backdrop. Don’t forget, you can find all of the POPTONE, metallic, and basic papers we used for this project here.

Question! When I download the SVG file, the center does not have lines for the machine to cut…. so it is just one solid rectangle. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
Lia Griffith
Hi Mindy, the peony is one of our all-time favorite flowers and we are thrilled that you are going to make it.When you look at the SVG file you will not see the lines to cut because it is a compound path which changes the shape to a solid color, once you upload the file to design space you will see the lines to cut!

Love your peony paper flower. I printed off the pattern and read your instructions but I am a little confused. Not sure what the grid work is for. Also the instructions say to fold the center – nothing is labeled as center. So I went to this page for the free tutorial on the peony but there isn’t one. I just purchase your curling tool, package of crepe paper and the book. Would like to find the tutorial on line to make the peony. Please advise. Thanks
Jan
Lia Griffith
Hi Jan,
Sorry about the confusion. You can find the photo tutorial at https://liagriffith.com/jumbo-peonies-backdrop/ and the written instructions at https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/lia-griffith-media/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/JumboPaperPeony_Instructions.pdf . As for the grid pattern I am not sure what you are referring to. There are score lines indicated on the leaves
Please note that we did not use crepe paper for this pattern. Let us know how it goes.

Lia Griffith
Hi Alex! Can you send an email to [email protected] with more details about the problem you’re having? We can help if it’s an issue with the file, but you will need to reach out to Silhouette’s customer service if it’s with the software or machine.

I have a cricut… not sure how to upload the templates to the app for cutting
Lia Griffith
Here is a guide for uploading a svg file to Cricut https://liagriffith.com/how-to-use-svg-files-for-cricut/

I printed the templates, but I there were 2 petals for each size. One that says 6 and one that says 15. To create the giant peony, do I use just the template that says 6?
Lia Griffith
To make the large peony you will cut out the number of petals that is printed on each petal labeled (Large). 6 of one petal shape, 15 of one petal shape, and 15 of another petal shape. You should have 36 petals. Two of the petal shapes are the same except in size, one is slightly smaller.

Thank you. My friend needed some giant flowers in a hurry, and I had never made even one. Your pattern was perfect, easy to follow and 3 different sizes. I appreciate it very much that you shared this, in the sea of files that promise to work with Cricut Maker…and none of them are the right kind of file to download. You’re the sweetest!

How do we curl the large petals? I have a cricut machine that has a scraper tool. Can we use this? It looks like what your photos show. What is the technique for curling?
