Instead of a physical kiss, consider celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by sharing a candy kiss with a fun and creative DIY card that might make someone’s day a little bit luckier. This card is straightforward, so don’t be fooled with all of the textures and colors. Check out below on how to make this DIY Kiss Me Card for St. Patrick’s Day!
Instructions for Kiss Me Card
Start with the envelope, since the card has to fit the envelope. Using a Natural Citrus envelope, score it 1/2″ in on the sides and bottom. Fold it crisply and push it out into a 1″ box, folding up the little triangles at the bottom, grocery bag style. Using 1″ strips of the Emerald and 1″ Scortape add reinforcing bands to the bottom and sides. The color will be added later with scraps when you trim the card.
Add a piece of 7 3/4″ x 4″ piece of Emerald, as an envelope liner and put some 1/2″ ScorTape inside to hold it closed. Tape it to the envelope flap then score then so the top is 1″ wide and the rest folds over; the green part of the flap is also 1″. For this card use a 2.25″ square die cut.
For the card:
The first step is to use a full 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of Emerald score and fold it in half. Refer to the photo as you go along. Position the die-cut 1.5″ from the right and 1″ up from the bottom. Use a pencil and lightly draw lines around the inside of the die-cut and check for alignment when done. Extend those lines to the edges of the card. Draw a second set of lines a ruler’s width ( about 1″ ) up from the bottom line and in from the left side of the square. Using the 1/2″ ScorTape and referring to the photo, put the tape on the card, removing the backing as needed. Using Cosmic Shimmer Gilding tape, in the Copper variation and Silver, put more silver in the middle of the card, near where the Hugs will be, and more copper to the outside of the card. Add 3 more pieces of 1/4″ ScorTape so the design becomes a plaid. The 1/4″ stripe, which is hard to see, is above the top horizontal line under the black stripe. The thin stripes are all silver Gilding Flakes. The tiny lines are holographic nail striping tape.
Now that the background design is done, cut the 2″ square hole. Position it over the plaid so you like the position, leaving enough room for the KISS. Use a pin tool and make little holes in the corners. Turn the card over and cut it from the back. The hard part is done, the rest is downhill from here. Trim the card so it fits into the envelope.
The final card is 7 1/4″ wide and 5 1/4″ deep. Trim anywhere that suits you. I trimmed more from the left, it doesn’t matter as long as the card fits into the envelope and the square is positioned well. Use those card scraps to glue onto the envelope to hold the flap down and reinforce the edges at the top. Turn the card over, to the inside of the card, and outline the hole with 1/2″ ScorTape, pulling the backing. Put your plastic container through the window, pressing the edges into the tape, and add some candy, and add another layer of 1/2″ ScorTape. Adjust the cutout part of the card so it fits the design on the front; pull up and keep adjusting if required. Leave the card open, face down, and cut out a 71/4″ x 3 3/4″ rectangle of Onyx and cut around semicircle per the photo. My Onyx didn’t go on straight, so I added some Copper along the bottom, gluing it to the Onyx. The whole left side of the Onyx is not attached so it will pull up easier, to get to the candy. Put the Onyx over the plastic container with the candy and the backing in place. When you pull on it the Onyx will come up, to get the candy.
The message is printed on Natural Citrus with an inkjet printer. The top lettering is beveled. Since it is text weight I used spray adhesive to glue it down. The shamrock was Emerald and Martha Stewart’s, Four Leaf Clover punch. The inside is done. Close the card and using 1/4″ strips of Onyx, backed with 1/8″ Scor-tape, outline the box, going to the card edges.
Enjoy!
