Our Mothers are our best friends, our first and last supporters, and this special day is a chance to say Thank You, with a handmade card, crafted with love.
For this particular design, start with Coral and cut it so it is only 7.25″ wide. The matching envelope is Coral, 7.5″ square and the card need to be a tad smaller. The Coral base card, now 7.25″ x 11″, is scored at 3.75″. Referring to the photos, if you look closely, you will see that this is really just two cards, one a little smaller, taped together to so that one flap folds from the top and the other folds up from the bottom.
The message is ink jet printed on Pearl White. Do the printing before you cut the paper, so it will go through the printer easier. After printing, trim the paper from the right side so it is 6.75″ and score it 4 3/8″ up from the bottom. The scoring provides a guideline for embossing and now do that, remembering which side of the design will be showing when you fold the card up.
Using ScorTape, center the Pearl White card inside the Coral card. The flowers are Memory Box, Prim Poppies, Style 98310. Cut the base stem from Curious Skin, Emerald, 100 lb cover and glue down. This was glued with Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue and applied with a toothpick. The top flower is Purple and the bottom flower is Azalea.
The bold design on the top flap is Cheery Lynn, Doily Dies, Sophia’s Heart, DL 184 and cut from Purple. Cut 2 designs; I did have to run it 4 or 5 time through the Big Shot Pro, turning it and shimming it with several sheets of folded copy paper. The pressure in the middle is not as good as at the edges of the roller and it is a big die. It did cut the heavier cover stock, which is nice.
Looks great when you are done, just takes a little effort. Since the design is very open, to hold it sturdy where it comes off the Coral flap, a 4.25″ circle was cut from Aquamarine which was embossed to match the design on the Pearl White flap that folds up to meet it. Using ScorTape, attach the circle: in this design 1.75″ of the circle sticks out.
The Doily Die on the front of the flap was attached so the lacy edged went past the Aquamarine circle. On the inside, the Doily Die was trimmed with Tim Holtz scissors so that it ended inside the circle. That part is certainly optional. Attach the inside Doily die with glue and a toothpick, carefully aligning the edges. Add a little heart from the Doily Die cut and you have a wonderful Mother’s Day card.
Enjoy!
