Let’s play Dots and Boxes! Welcome to our mini series of different Paper Games! Through the next few months we will be posting a variety of games that you can print off and play with friends and family, or even just enjoy by yourself.

Dots and Boxes Game

Learn how you can make your very own or print off ours to play immediately.

Instructions for Printing Dots and Boxes:

  1. Grab your favorite color paper! We used Burano Paper.
  2. Download the zip file below that contains the PDF file below.
  3. Print off!
  4. Grab a friend and play using the instructions on the game.

Instructions for Making Your Own Game:

We have provided a zip file below for Photoshop and Affinity Photo so you can add a fun background, change the font, add your names, or edit the game however you would like! Make sure to use the download to access the zip file for everything.

Instructions for Dots and Boxes Game:

Each player takes turns drawing one line. If that line completes a square, the player writes their initial in that box and draws another line. Play continues until all boxes have been connected. The player with the most boxes wins!

History of Dots and Boxes:

Dots and Boxes was invented by French mathematician Édouard Lucas, in the 19th century, who called it la pipopipette.
