For millions, preparations for a New Year is just beginning. February 8th marks the Year of the Monkey, ambitious and adventurous. Monkeys love Gold, so Paper-Papers: FAV Shimmer, Pure Gold, cover stock makes a perfect, fast, lantern. Make one for the door, or many for a party banner.

I foiled the entire page with Chinese lettering for “Harmony”, and bamboo. The red foil is from PulsarProFX.com, and the laminator, an SM-330, was turned up to 7.

Gold paper and foiling can work in harmony

I found the two designs as free templates on Pinterest and put them together in photo shop. You can print whatever design brings you happiness. The whole page was foiled and then cut so that the 11″ side was cut into 8 equal parts. I did the easy math and just kept cutting the long side in halves.

The top and bottom were trimmed about 1/2-inch each bringing the strips to 7.5-inch. The ends were rounded with an envelope punch to cut the bulk. I punched a hole in both ends of the strips and used gold twine to pull the strips into a ball.

I used brads in the holes, looping the twine around the ends, pulling tension on the bottom brad. The ribbons were just tied into the twine. After I got the brads in, I rotated the sections into a circle.

Very easy and very fun. Enjoy in your house or as a gift.
