One question that we get quite a lot is “what are announcement envelopes” and what can they be used for? Announcement cards and envelopes are usually called A-style.

About Announcement Envelopes
Announcement envelopes or A-style envelopes were originally designed to match cover papers and text. They have a square flap, and they can be purchased in a vast range of textures and colours.
Some of them are often available with a deckled edge. This is where the envelope has a ragged, or feathered outline. This gets its name from the frame, which is called a deckle and is often used in papermaking.
Announcement envelopes are A1, A2, A6, A7 and A9 and often come with a recognisable square flap. This makes them easy to seal as well as ensuring that they are easy to open when the recipient receives them.

A-Series Sizes Defined
A-series sizes are defined by numerous requirements. The top sizes that are currently available for announcement envelopes include:
- A2
- A6
- A7
- A8
- A9
- A10
The paper size is defined by the ISO 216. The length is divided by the width and this is always 1.4142. The A0 size is one square metre in terms of surface area. Each subsequent size is defined as A(n). This is A(n-1) as it is cut in half on the shorter side. The standard width or size is rounded to the next millimetre.
